What’s nice about the holidays is that there is plenty of inspiration for crafting and making and sending cards. But once January has started, I’m always happy that I don’t have to do anything “Christmassy” anymore! Valentine’s Day also provides plenty of inspiration… but if you are already happily married for many years, who can I send my Valentine’s Day card to…? Don’t ask me how I came to the idea, but suddenly it came to me: a Valentine’s Day card for a bookworm! It also looks like the recipient is receiving a Valentine’s Day card from someone, but he or she is actually receiving a bookmark as a gift!

You can use any scraps of cardstock and scrap paper you have on hand. It is a very simple card to make, so it is also fun to make with children for their mom or dad! And of course you can also adapt it to all kinds of other themes and occasions: there are plenty of possibilities!
First we make the card: take any color cardstock you like and cut it into a piece of 27 x 7.5 cm. Fold this in half to form a card.

Stick scrapbook paper of 13.5 x 7.5 cm on this.

I made an envelope from transparent paper (I found a pattern here on Instructables).

Stick the little envelope on the card.

In a program of your choice, you can adjust the size of the images you want to use. I resized the little Cupid and the heart with the wings a maximum of 5 cm wide. I made the heart balloons +/- 2.5 cm wide. If you make the same card as I do, you will need a maximum of 3 heart balloons.
Print your pictures from the Love and Romance digital stamp set by Kate and color in the pictures you want to use. I used my alcohol markers for this, but you can color them with whatever you want of course!
To make the matching bookmark: take a nice color of cardstock measuring 20 x 5 cm, fold it in half. Use (leftover) scrap paper and stick strips of it on the top and bottom of the bookmark. Leave a few cm free in the middle so you can write the text on this section.

Color, cut and paste a red heart balloon from Kate’s bundle and paste it in such a way that you can make the text: “I “heart” books”.

I still had a small colored picture left and I glued it to the inside of the bookmark.

Finishing: Place the bookmark in the small transparent envelope on the card in a way that you can no longer see the text on the bookmark. Stick the remaining 2 balloons and the little Cupid on the bag.

And that’s it, a completed Valentine’s card with a handy bookmark!
