Sasha’s Mother’s Day Flower Bouquet

by Sasha

Hello everyone! It’s almost spring! And with spring comes Mother’s Day, making it the perfect time to create something truly special for the wonderful moms in our lives. While fresh flowers may wilt, a handmade paper flower bouquet will last forever – making it the perfect DIY gift idea for anyone this Mother’s Day! For this project, I used the Signs of Spring Digital Stamp Set, which includes various floral images.

I started by uploading five of the floral stamps to Cricut Design Space, my software of choice for sizing and printing digital stamps. You can also use any word-processing software, such as Microsoft Office or Google Docs, to size and print your images. I sized the images and then used the Cricut Print and then Cut feature to prepare them for colouring. I printed the images onto 100lb Hammermill cardstock.

Before colouring, I trimmed off the stems of the flowers so I could later attach sturdy wooden sticks as replacements. This made the flowers less flimsy and easier to put into a bouquet.

Feel free to colour the images using whatever your preferred colouring medium is! Whether you are using crayons, markers, or paints, anything goes when colouring digital stamps! Since I love to colour using alcohol markers, I used the following Ohuhu alcohol markers to colour the flowers:

  • Orange: YR180, Y10, YR4
  • Yellow: Y2, Y1, Y3
  • Purple: V270, V250, V230

Once the flowers are coloured, we can now attach the stems. Using some kind of sturdy, wooden craft stick—such as stir sticks, popsicle sticks, or dowels—first colour the craft stick green and adhere it to the back of the flowers using either glue or tape. You can use whatever you have on hand to colour the sticks. I decided to use a green Sharpie.

To make the bouquet, I cut a piece of brown kraft cardstock to measure 7 inches by 7 inches. I then rolled the cardstock into a cone shape, flattened the cone, and glued it together using liquid adhesive.

To finish off the bouquet, I added a decorative piece of baker’s twine and placed the flowers inside the cardstock to make the bouquet itself.

And that’s it! A beautiful, handmade paper flower bouquet that will last forever. Although this is the perfect Mother’s Day gift, it is also the perfect craft for anyone who loves flowers, making it much easier to have them around year-round!

Thanks for reading. See you next time!
