I Didn’t Mean The Laundry handmade card tutorial

by Dani B

Hello crafters! I hope you’re all well. The card I’m sharing with you today is a great opportunity to crack out a little joke or a pun – I do love a pun as we know! It’s a fun card that’s perfect for the theme of ‘Spring Cleaning’ or with said joke or pun, can double up as a great anniversary card, which is what I was going with here.

The Wash Day Stamps pack contain a great collection of apparel and accessories. I really love the folded laundry (hence I had to use it in this project!). There’s even some frilly undies! I’ll talk you through what I did to get the end result….

First, I printed off all my elements onto White Super Smooth card. Super Smooth card is essential when colouring with alcohol markers to get a smooth blend. Then, I set to colour them. For me, colouring is a therapy. I absolutely get lost in the process and can understand why the adult colouring industry is so huge. I used my Copic Markers to colour – any alcohol markers of your choice would suffice. I used:

Dryer T0, T1, T2, T3, T4. Dryer buttons/door N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6. Towels B26, B14, B16/B000, B04, B01. Washing powder R59, R14, R27 / B79, B29, B28, B66

I fussy cut all my elements and carefully positioned them where desired, and stuck them into place with some double sided adhesive (leaving the top tape paper in place). This can be easily done by tearing your sticky tape off in advance and holding 2 elements in place between your thumb and forefinger and placing your tape. Then, repeat the process with your next element.

Once positioned, I flipped my elements over and went in with – yes you’ve guessed it – my white gel pen! I used to be quite sparing with my highlights but now I apply them liberally. I’m loving this effect lately. Here was no exception. I added all the highlights! Hehe!

Now, I cut down a piece of White Super Smooth card approx 6mm smaller than a UK A6 card blank. From the centre outwards, I blended some Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide, going lighter as I moved outwards.

For the final step, I typed and printed my sentiment on Word. Then, trimmed it down into smaller parts. Once I’d adhered my image with foam tape, I also positioned my sentiment pieces in the same manner. Any that needed to overlap my image, I trimmed the foam tape short of the image and applied a small amount of wet adhesive to the overlapping area.

This was all then adhered to a top folding UK A6 card blank using foam tape and then I finished the card off with some clear flat back cabochons to mimic bubbles. (laundry bubbles!)

I hope you like this fun card and I’d love to see what you’ve done with this set!

Until next time, take care.

Lots of love, Dani xx

About Dani B

Hello, I’m Dani (short for Danielle). I’m a stay at home mum due to many a health issue and been crafting to cure the boredom for around 15 years. I dare say I have a crafting style as my style is forever evolving but I LOVE clean and simple and struggle with (although very much admire) mixed media. My favourite technique is probably colouring with my alcohol markers!
