Colour In Christmas Gift Tags

by Kate

When I was making my Christmas Bookmarks, a friend mentioned that she thought they would also make fun gift tags, so I tweaked the drawing a little, made them a more traditional gift tag shape, created a design for the back and here they are in gift tag form:

You could also use the bookmarks as gift tags, or mix and match both packs if you have lots of gifts to tag! I designed these Christmas characters to be fun for both adults and children to colour so this would make a lovely family activity in the run up to Christmas, as well as making lots of lovely handmade gift tags for special presents!

What you’ll need:

  • Colour In Christmas Gift Tags printable (available in the shop)
  • cardstock or matte photo paper and access to a printer
  • your favourite colouring materials – coloured pencils, crayons, felt tip pens etc
  • double sided tape or a glue stick (for the double sided version)
  • scissors, a hole punch and some ribbon or twine, or washi tape
  • optional extras: glitter, metallic pens, kraft or coloured cardstock, white gel pen

How to make the Christmas Gift Tags:

1. Print the PDF file onto cardstock. I used 300gsm white card for mine. Ideally you want something of a similar sort of weight to help create more robust gift tags if you’re only printing the single sided version. If you don’t have any thicker card, using the doubled sided version will add some more weight and strength to your finished tag.

The tags come in three different versions, just print whichever works best for you:

  • single sided (just the character design)
  • double sided – character on the front, “to” and “from” text and design on the back
  • double sided – character on the front and blank, text-free design on the back

2. Get colouring! This is the fun part – use your favourite art materials to colour as much or as little of the design as you like. Top tip: metallic pens and gel pens work really well for adding sparkles here and there!

3. Cut out the tags with scissors or a craft knife. I prefer to cut slightly away from the edge to leave a small paper border around the tags. Younger children might need some help with the scissors here!

4. Punch a hole in the top of the tag and attach a short length of ribbon or coloured twine to attach your tag to the gift. You can also attach the tags with a small piece of washi tape if you don’t have any ribbon handy, or tuck them under any ribbon or twine on the gifts.

And that’s it! All that’s left is to write your message on the back, add your finished tag to your gifts and start handing out your presents!

For a really quick and easy, no-colouring needed activity, print the tags onto coloured card or kraft paper and you have instant gift tags that are perfect for that last-minute gift! Top tip: white gel pen looks lovely on kraft paper tags for adding your message!

Happy crafting and Merry Christmas!
