I’m really excited to be sharing these new printables with you today! I have had the idea for these Christmas cards on my mind for a little while now so it’s lovely to finally have them out of my head, into my sketchbook and then turned into a printable craft for you.
The printable contains 6 fun Christmas character cards for you to colour and create your own personalised greetings cards. I designed the cards to be easy enough for kids to colour, but also fun for adults too and so this an activity that all the family can enjoy!
What you’ll need:
- Colour In Christmas Cards printable (available in the shop)
- cardstock or matte photopaper and access to a printer
- your favourite art materials (coloured pencils, felt tip pens, crayons etc)
- scissors or craft knife
- 5×7 inch envelopes
- optional: bone folder and metal ruler
- optional: extra embellishments such as glitter, sequins, felt, mini pom-poms etc
How to make the Colour In Christmas Cards:
1. Print the PDF file onto a good weight of cardstock. I used 300gsm white cardstock for mine. Ideally you want something of a similar sort of weight to help create more sturdy cards that will stand up nicely.
2. Get colouring! This is the fun part – use your favourite art materials to colour as much or as little of the design as you like. Top tip: metallic or glitter pens work really well for adding sparkly detail here and there! You could also add some extra dimension to your cards with some extra details such as some cotton wool on Santa’s beard, a furry felt red nose on the reindeer or a mini pom-pom on the bear’s hat!
3. Cut out the coloured cards along the outer line using scissors or a craft knife.
4. Fold the card in half along the dashed line in the centre to create your finished card! If you have used thick card, scoring that centre line will help you fold the card in half accurately and neatly.
And that’s it, your handmade Christmas card is complete! If you’ve chosen to use the version with the text on the back, you can sign your name there as well as writing your message inside the card.
Other options include printing the cards onto coloured paper (a festive red or green would look fabulous!) to create quick and easy cards, or printing them at a smaller size to use as gift tags. However you use them, I hope that you and your kids really enjoy making these fun Christmas character cards!
Happy crafting and Merry Christmas!
