Sasha’s Under the Sea card

by Sasha

Hello everyone! Sasha here. Today, I’m diving into a fun and interactive cardmaking project, a shaker card with an under-the-water theme! This card features the Under the Sea Digital Stamp Set and is perfect for any occasion – summer, birthdays, you name it!

I started by uploading several images from the Under the Sea Digital Stamp Set into Cricut Design Space. I picked a few friendly sea creatures and some seaweed to bring the underwater scene to life. I also used the Cricut software to create a sentiment for my card that says, “I Can’t Sea Myself Without You!” I arranged everything to fit an A2-sized card and then printed the images on 100lb Hammermill cardstock, my go-to for alcohol marker colouring and cut them using my Cricut cutting machine. You can also use any word-processing software, such as Microsoft Office or Google Docs, to size and print your images.

Now it’s time to colour! I used the following Ohuhu alcohol markers to colour the images:

  • Oranges: YR190, YR090, YR070,YR030
  • Blues: B080, B070, B050, B030

To create an ocean-inspired background, I used one of my favourite techniques: ink-smushing! I applied different shades of blue ink to my glass mat work surface, spritzed them with water, and pressed my cardstock into the ink to create a water effect.

The inks I used were Salty Ocean Distress Oxide, along with Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated inks in Royal and Seafoam.

For the shaker element, I reused a piece of clear cellophane packaging. While acetate works, too, I love repurposing materials when I can! Start by placing double-sided adhesive tape on the back of your background. Then, peel off the backing of the tape, place the background in the middle of your cellophane packaging, and fold the cellophane tightly against the edges of the card onto the tape on the back of the card, making sure to leave one side open so that we can add embellishments. From here, simply add your embellishments and seal the remaining side of the shaker card.

To finish off the card, I used liquid adhesive to adhere the images and sentiment on top of the shaker element.

And there you have a bright and playful shaker card that brings the ocean to life! I love how the shaker adds an interactive element, and the Under the Sea Digital Stamp Set made creating an entire underwater world easy.

Thanks for reading. See you next time!
