Easy Valentine’s projects

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first hybrid post of the year! I am sharing oodles of ideas with you today – all with a lovey dovey, Valentines theme, but really they are all straight forward ideas that are totally adaptable for almost any occasion. Let your imagination run wild and most of all – have FUN 🙂

Queen of my Heart gift box

A box for any lovely husband to give to the most important woman in his life…right?! Made with a template by WendyBird Designs (have a look at her new store at The Lilypad!). Once I’d added my paper and images to the template, I printed, cut out and assembled as per Wendy’s clear instructions. I added a banner (add your text before printing to make life simpler – and neat!) and the heart for decoration. I stuck them on with sticky foam pads and glue dots for a slightly raised effect. All edges were inked too.

Supplies: I used WendyBird Designs’ Gable Box template together with Kate’s fabulous All Mad Here and Wonderlanders

Joodle Strip Paper Chains

A heart paper chain is another simple decorative touch: print out lots of joodle strips (remember to add some pattern or colour to the reverse), cut out and then staple together in a heart chain. I used different sizes of heart for a little added variety. Alternatively, simply make a straight forward paper chain with glue dots or sticky tape – your children will love to help!

Supplies: I chose to use Kate’s Joodle Strips 7 to make my paper chain

Drinks Straw Toppers

Print out some colourful images from your collection of Kate’s doodles onto thin card – they need to be about 2.5″ in diameter. Cut out and make two small slits roughly in the centre, then “thread” the straw through. Alternatively, these would be perfect pencil toppers too!

Supplies: I used images from Kate’s All Mad Here, That’s Life and Party Monsters.

Heart Strings

Print out lots of hearts onto A4 paper. Either print or paint a contrasting colour onto the reverse, and cut out. Glue two hearts together with the thread or cord running down the centre – leave the edges unstuck so you can fan them slightly. Leave a small gap and then add the next pair of hearts to the cord / thread until you have 4-6 pairs dangling. Add beads if you like, and tie off. Hang in your doorway.

Supplies: I used fishing line as my dangling cord, diamond glaze as the adhesive and my son painted the reverse of the hearts with gold paint for me! The hearts are from Kate’s Over the Rainbow and Child of the 80’s packs.

Valentine’s Kisses & Fortune Cookies

Fortune cookies are fairly straight forward to make, but if in doubt make life easier by using a template! WendyBird Deigns has a freebie template on her blog that is a snap to use. Simply clip your paper to the template, add your “fortune” and print. After cutting out, add the fortune to the centre and fold the circle in half – do not crease! Bring the two open sides together and use a glue dot to secure in place.

Supplies: I used Wendy’s template with the roses from All Mad Here and the background paper from Red, White and Blue.

The Valentine Kisses are even simpler: make a circle shape in Photoshop to fit the footprint of the Kisses. Add any images you like, print, cut and stick!

Supplies: I used doodles from both Kate’s Love and Romance and Lovey Dovey Doodads collections.

Colour-In Valentines

One final super-easy Valentine’s decorative idea: I gave Kate’s ready-to-go Colour In Valentines to the children at school and they decorated them with a lot of enthusiasm! They are big fans of Kate’s doodles as our library has many of her doodled characters hanging about, making the room look TOTALLY awesome!
