  • Today I have been having fun playing with some more goodies from the lovely folks at @artezaofficial! They sent me a set of Real Brush Pens along with their watercolour paper pads and this is what I came up with! . The watercolour pad was more much textured than I would usually use (I do love a nice smooth paper!) but I surprised myself by how much I enjoyed the texture. There was a bit of buckling but I did flood the paper with a LOT of water. The pens are lovely - they are nylon bristle brush tips (hence the name - Real Brush Pens!) with water based ink so they are more permanent when dry than watercolour. Which is great for me as I enjoy adding lots of layers and washes! I used the pens on both wet and dry paper, and I also dipped the nibs into water and then went straight onto the paper to build up areas of colour from light to dark. If you are used to watercolour you might have to work a bit faster with these as they do tend to dry a bit quicker than traditional watercolours. ⁣⠀ .⁣⠀ These aren't an alternative to Tombows but more an art journaling / fine art type of pen, you probably won't want to use these in your bullet journal as they will bleed through the thin journal paper! My only criticism with these was that I would have liked to have had more colours at my disposal, so I think I will have to treat myself to the full set of 96! I found them really freeing to play with and to experiment with washes, layers and blending the colours on the paper. ⁣⠀ .⁣⠀ Let me know if you have any questions about these pens or if you try them out yourself, I'd love to see what you create!   • The lovely peeps at @artezaofficial sent me these watercolour pencils to have a play with! I've been pleasantly surprised by these babies, they're budget pencils (£28.99 for a tin of 72) but they're very pigmented and really fun to use! I picked a few of my favourite colours and cracked open a watercolour sketchbook to test them out.⁣ Here's what I found: they're all pretty highly pigmented (apart from some of the lighter colours) and they layer and blend well together. With the exception of a few of the pinks, the barrel colour is a great match for the lead colour which makes picking the right pencil really easy. They're comfortable to hold and lay down colour well. It does take a fair bit of water to activate them so you probably won't want to use them wet in your bullet journal (unless you like the wrinkled paper look!) but for art journaling and mixed media work on suitable paper they would be a great set for someone getting started with watercolour pencils.   • I've been trying a new layout for this week - just a whole lot of space for whatever journaling / tasks / notes I had! But, it's not really working as well as I'd hoped (I think I'm too attached to my vertical lists!) so I'm going to amend it slightly for next week and sees how that goes.   • Embracing the yellow again for January's monthly spread! And also embracing the #funkyflorals again in an effort to bring some flowers and sunshine to this dull, rainy month!⠀ .⠀ I used a different technique for this one - I inked the flowers first and then lay down random areas of colour within the inked borders.
