Printable Nativity Scene craft to make with your kids

With my last post of the year I wanted to share with you the new nativity themed printables I’ve been working on with my kids! Special thanks to everyone who contacted me after I released the Christmas Cones and asked for a nativity version, I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed making them!

These new nativity printables come in two versions: pre-coloured (perfect for whipping up a quick and easy display!) and an outline only colour-in version for you to colour your own nativity scene characters!

This printable nativity set is great fun for kids to colour and put together and will keep little hands (and big ones!) busy in the run up to the big day! The cutting out is more intricate than the Christmas Cones and so these may be better suited to slightly older children, or you might need to help younger ones with the scissors.

What you’ll need:

• Nativity scene printable (available in the shop)
• cardstock or matte photo paper and access to a printer
• scissors and glue stick, double-sided tape or your choice of adhesive
• your choice of colouring materials (coloured pencils, crayons, paints etc)
• Optional extras: glitter glue, cotton wool, raffia or straw

How to make the Nativity scene:

1. Download the PDF file and print on to light to medium weight white cardstock. You want the card to be stiff enough to hold a good shape, but not so thick that it’s difficult for little ones to assemble the characters.

2. Get colouring! Use your favourite art materials and colour in all the characters you’d like to add to your scene. We used coloured pencils to create our version. Top tip: metallic pens work really well to add some extra bling to the wise men and their gifts!

3. Cut out your completed characters using scissors. This is where little ones might need some guidance or another pair of hands to help out!

4. Add a dab of glue or some double sided tape to the tab on the side of the characters and roll the cone around with the tab on the inside to stick together. You might find it’s easiest to do this on a flat surface to help your character stand up nice and straight! I’ve found that a glue stick works well as it allows that little bit of movement while positioning.

5. Once assembled, glue the angel wings to the back of the angel. 

Optional extras: You might like to add some extra glitz to the wise men’s crowns and gifts with some glitter glue, or fluff up the sheep by adding some cotton wool! You could also add some raffia or straw to the manger, or some coloured felt to the characters’ clothing. These extras are easiest to apply by slipping the assembled cone character onto your hand and getting busy with the glue! You could even go the whole hog and make your own stable for your nativity characters using an old shoe box and some craft materials!

Ready-Coloured Nativity Scene Craft

For a quick and easy way to create your own nativity set, you might prefer the pre-coloured version of this craft! This is a great option if time is limited, or you need to create a lot of characters at once as I have already done all the colouring for you! All you need to do is print, cut and assemble your characters to quickly create your own nativity set. The ready-coloured option also includes two skin / hair tones versions for each the characters.

I hope you enjoy creating your own personal nativity set with these new printable crafts! My kids really loved making these and building their own little scene, I’m sure it’s a craft we will revisit year after year and look back fondly on all the characters we created.
