Father’s Day slider card

5 June 2023 by Kinjal Trivedi

Hello all. With Father’s Day around the corner, here is a fun interactive card to inspire you! It’s always been a challenge to make a masculine card, but to be honest, all the amazing digital stamps from Kate Hadfield made it super easy for me to compile this card. So, let’s get started!

handmade father's day card showing jacket and bowtie

I printed all the elements that I wanted. I used the jacket as the front of the card from Bigger On the Inside stamp set. I formatted the image to an approximate A2 (4.25″ x 5.5″) card front size.

I also used additional elements like shoes, a bowtie, a hat, a TV, a suitcase, and a key image for the inner card base border from the same stamp set.

Other border elements were used from the Father’s Day stamp set. I made a box with the approximate measurement that will fit behind the jacket image and placed all the images within the box. It doesn’t have to be neat, so I knew that if the images would also get cut, it would still look good.

I also printed the glasses from the Bigger On the Inside stamp set, which I resized to fit approximately on top of the jacket as a pull-up area.

I printed all the above elements and started to build them together. I started by coloring the jacket using Arteza brush pens and Faber Castell polychromos. After coloring the jacket, I fussy cut the jacket border, placed it on a plain white card base, drew the outline, and cut that piece. That will be used as the pocket where the slider card will fit.

Next, I colored the glasses and to give it a fun element, I added some Dimensional Mod Podge to make it look like glass frames with a glare. I also colored badge #1 Dad and fussy cut it.

I measured the exact measurement behind the jacket and cut the border piece using a Scor-pal. I used Mustard seed, Rusty Hinge, and Aged Mahogany in an ombre shade on the piece. I added some stickers from Paper House Productions over it.

Now comes the assembly. I added double-sided tape on all the 3 sides of the jacket piece that we cut out of white cardstock. I adhered to the front-colored jacket piece on top to make the insert pocket. I added the badge using foam squares.  Keep this aside.

I let the glasses dry with the Mod Podge and after it was completely dried, I adhered it to the top of the card insert.

I inserted the entire piece and pulled it out a couple of times to get the smoothness of the push and pull. After I was happy, I knew this card was ready for the recipient. It’s a technical card but a very fun one.

Hope you liked the card, and the directions were easy to follow.  Hope you get inspired and make something like this. Thank you for hanging out with me!

About Kinjal Trivedi

I am Kinjal Trivedi, known as Mind My Paper on social media. Cardmaking fell into my lap when I moved to the USA in 2015, after getting married to my husband. I needed a way to find my creative outlet being away from my loved ones and cardmaking stole my heart. Although I didn’t seriously craft till 2021, that’s when I started blogging, working on DT teams and self-taught my way to happiness. I have since moved from the USA and travel the world every few years and cardmaking has been and is my main constant. I hope you find joy in my cards and know that they come from a place of love. I am so happy to spend the next few months here with Kate and her brilliantly fun and cute designs. Thanks for spending time with me!
